061210: Obama’s Weekly Address
More than a decade ago, Congress set up a formula that governs how doctors get paid by the Medicare program. The intent was to slow the growth of Medicare costs, but the result was a formula that has proposed cutting payments for America’s doctors year after year after year. These are cuts that would not only jeopardize our physicians’ pay, but our seniors’ health care. Since 2003, Congress has acted to prevent these pay cuts from going into effect. These votes were largely bipartisan, and they succeeded when Democrats ran Congress and when Republicans ran Congress — which was most of the time. This year, a majority of Congress is willing to prevent a pay cut of 21% — a pay cut that would undoubtedly force some doctors to stop seeing Medicare patients altogether. But this time, some Senate Republicans may even block a vote on this issue. After years of voting to defer these cuts, the other party is now willing to walk away from the needs of our doctors and our seniors. Now, I realize that simply kicking these cuts down the road another year is not a long-term solution to this problem. For years, I have said that a system where doctors are left to wonder if they’ll get honestly reimbursed makes absolutely no sense. And I am committed to permanently reforming this Medicare formula in a way that balances fiscal responsibility with the responsibility we have to doctors and seniors. In addition, we’re already taking significant steps to slow the growth of Medicare costs through …
Saving Lives: Challenging the Ban on Compensating Bone Marrow Donors
FOR MORE ON THIS CASE, VISIT www.ij.org Every year, 1000 Americans die because they cannot find a matching bone marrow donor. Minorities are hit especially hard. Common sense suggests that offering modest incentives to attract more bone marrow donors would be worth pursuing, but federal law makes that a felony punishable by up to five years in prison. That is why on October 28, 2009, adults with deadly blood diseases, the parents of sick children, a California nonprofit and a world-renowned medical doctor who specializes in bone marrow research joined with the Institute for Justice to launch a legal fight against the US Attorney General to place an end to a ban on offering compensation for bone marrow donors. The National Organ Transplant Act (NOTA) of 1984 treats compensation for marrow donors as though it were black-market organ sales. Under NOTA, giving a college student a scholarship or a new homeowner a mortgage payment for donating marrow would land everyone—doctors, nurses, donors and patients—in federal prison for up to five years. NOTAs criminal ban violates equal protection because it arbitrarily treats renewable bone marrow like nonrenewable solid organs instead of like other renewable or inexhaustible cells—such as blood—for which compensated donation is legal. That makes no sense because bone marrow, unlike organs such as kidneys, replenishes itself in just a few weeks after it is donated, leaving the donor whole once again. The ban also violates substantive …
$78.8 Trillion; United States Debt Obligations exceed world GDP; Monetary Collapse Looming?
How in the world are we going to pay off all of this debt? Raising taxes to do it would burden our economy, and then the situation would only get worse. To me the solution is obvious, cut spending. For too long in this country we’ve had the give-me-stuff people standing there with their hand out, and the government putting something in it. Does the thought of small government ring a bell? It is what our founding Fathers had in mind when they gave us our constitution. That is why there is a list in the constitution that quite clearly spells out the powers of the federal government, and also what it is not allowed to do. So basically if it was not listed as a power, then they are to stay away from it, and allow the States to handle it. Just take a look at federal laws. At the very beginning they will state their authority in enacting the law, and it is nearly always the commerce clause. I’m sure they even reckon that just because your computer is hooked up to the internet, and therefore has contact with other computers in other States, that they then would have the constitutional right of regulating your computer, and thereby your internet communications; they are out of control. jbranstetter04 Federal obligations exceed world GDP Does $65.5 trillion terrify anyone yet? As the Obama administration pushes through Congress its $800 billion deficit-spending economic stimulus plot, the American public is largely unaware that the right deficit of the federal government already is …
Eddie George 64yd TD run – Illinois
Eddie’s highlight run of his highlight day against Illinois. November 11, 1995. First play on the first possession of the second half for the Bucks, after Illinois took the second half kickoff down the field for 4 minutes or so for a FG “to make a game of it”. Eddie had other thoughts. “Tommie Frazier, it’s your turn, buddy.”
Wal-Mart – High Cost of Low Price part 10 of 10
Part 10 out of 10 of a film about how the largest supermarket chain in the USA are being paid and begged to open new stores in towns, while they are abusing the American people. Wal-mart have been begged and paid to establish new stores in towns all over America. As soon as the store opens, local shops are forced to declare bankruptcy since they cannot compete with Wal-Marts prices. Employees are victims for racism, and lack of proper health insurance through the job. Wal-Mart wants to place the responsibility on MediCare in order for them to save money. The company don’t care about the environment, and they care even less about the Chinese that make all lots of the goods you by for a cheap amount of money. They don’t care about you as a customer. Once you have paid for your grocieries, you are left on your own. Security on the parking lot? Forget about it. It costs too much. Again, this is not a film that I have made, I just want the message to get to the people! Please look at the credits at the end of the film!
Dems Face Serious Credibility Gap After Revelations about Health Care Law
House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) delivered the following remarks on the House floor today on the growing credibility gap of Washington Democrats, citing the recent Obama Administration report from the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) that confirms President Obamas new health care law will increase costs for Americans as just another reason why they cant be trusted: Mr. Speaker, we are seeing a growing credibility gap here in Washington. Democrats are saying one thing and doing something else. It started with the trillion-dollar stimulus plot that was rushed through with promises that it would make jobs immediately and keep unemployment below eight percent. Today, unemployment is near 10 percent and Americans are still asking, where are the jobs? Americans were also promised a war on deficits, but all thats happened is we piled more debt on the backs of our kids and grandkids. Then, we have the trillion-dollar government takeover of health care that was forced through with promises that it would lower cost. But turns out, the new law will really increase costs for taxpayers and patients. This comes from analysis from the Presidents administration, their Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). CMS determined that the new law will increase what the nation spends on health care over the next 10 years by $311 billion. The President claimed that this government takeover of health care was the single most vital thing that we can do to …
